Responsible for planning and organizing individual and group recreation programs to meet the social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs of residents.  Communicates available programs to residents and encourages participation.  Ensure residents’ lives are maintained to the fullest extent possible by providing activities and contacts within the community.


  • Adheres to and conveys a philosophy that supports the dignity, privacy, independence, choice and individuality of residents

  • Develops and maintains a volunteer program

  • Leads and/or oversees individual and group programs on a daily basis, encouraging resident participation.

  • Design a creative and exciting life enrichment program to meet the needs and interests/health of our residents

  • Plan a monthly calendar that includes one-on-one programs as well as group activities that will enrich the interests/health of our residents

  • Develops and distributes monthly life enrichment schedules to residents and posted for easy reference by residents

  • Develops and distributes a newsletter on a regular basis for residents, family members and selected referral sources.

  • Acknowledges resident birthdays, anniversaries, and special accomplishments

  • Orders needed supplies.  Oversees the life enrichment budget to ensure that costs are maintained within budgetary guidelines

  • Ensure Life Enrichment Programs meet all state, federal, and other regulations

  • Maintains the activity storage area in a neat, clean manner.

  • Provides instructions and supplies for other employees, residents or volunteers to assist with group or individual enrichment programs

  • Coordinate monthly special events at our Community.

  • Organizes outings in the local community

  • Attend any in-service educational programs recommended by the Community Manager

  • Follow defined safety codes while performing all duties. 

  • Understand facility fire and disaster plans and follow established procedures during fire drills and actual emergencies

  • Perform any other duties or special assignments as directed by the Community Manager of Primrose.

Job Requirements


  • Educations:  Activity Certification is preferred. High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • Experience:  Minimum of one year working with senior population preferred but will consider previous experiences.
  • Aptitude:  Excellent Communication (oral and written) in English, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of residents or associates of organization or outside professionals. 
  • Able and willing to work flexible hours.  This position will require some weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • Basic typing skills along with basic knowledge of computer Microsoft Software (i.e. Publisher, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Able to drive residents to outside activities in Primrose Bus
  • Enjoy working with the elderly and relates well to seniors

Physical Demands:  Must be able to reach, stoop, bend, carry and manipulate various items.  Lifting, pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs.  Using proper body mechanics or available equipment to help.  Physical activity required throughout the shift.


  • Report on-the-job injuries to the supervisor or manager before the end of your shifts
  • Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with co-workers, residents, families and visitors
  • Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, co-workers and families in the facility (see Community Manager for the HIPPA Privacy Act)
  • Promote PRIMROSE RETIREMENT in a positive way
  • Employees will not work under the influence of mood-altering or illegal drugs or alcohol.  If you are required to take medication, we ask you inform the Manager that you are taking the medications and for how long
  • Neat appearance and good personal hygiene is required at PRIMROSE
